Natalicia Tracy, PhD in Sociology, Boston University, where she studied the
intersectionality of race, gender, family, and immigration policy. For over a decade
she taught at the Labor Studies and Sociology Departments of UMass Boston. She
began volunteering at the Brazilian Worker Center (BWC) in 2006 and became the
Executive Director in 2010, also founding a sister agency, the Connecticut Worker
Center in Bridgeport. As she rebuilt the BWC, she strived to create an organization to
engage with the root causes of social inequality and injustice, through building strong
activist coalitions that included community, labor, faith organizations, legal aid, and
local government. Most recently (2021-2025), Natalicia was Senior Policy Advisor at
OSHA, US Department of Labor, in Washington, DC, as part of the Biden-Harris
administration. Her responsibilities included working to deepen outreach to
historically underserved and marginalized workers, through DOL’s “Impacts on Black
Workers” project, its anti-trafficking task force, its Equity Board and other efforts to
foster equitable recruiting, hiring, and promotions at DOL and multiple other projects
on racial justice, gender equity, workplace safety, and development of more effective
responses to the new challenges of emergency preparedness in the face of climate
change. She also has extensive experience in carrying out and reporting on
community-based, participatory research into causes and solutions for injustices
encountered by working people today.
